The International Guitar Festival begins the third edition, and is added to the international tribute events for the 80th anniversary of the famous guitarist and composer Leo Brouwer

In this third edition, which will take place from July 24 to 28 at the Infant Pere Cultural Center, the International Guitar Festival of Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant will be dedicated to voice and guitar. Specifically, it will feature Brazilian guitarist Badi Assad (July 24), the concert - tribute directed by maestro Leo Brouwer (July 25), Argentine soprano Mariana Flores and American lute player Hopkinson Smith (July 26), the Jòncols flamenco quartet (July 27), and the closing concert by guitarist Anabel Montesinos and the City of Tarragona Choir, under the direction of Xavier Pastrana (July 28).

In collaboration with the Municipal School and Conservatory of Music of Vila-seca, on Thursday, July 25, starting at 8 p.m., maestro Leo Brouwer will direct the work for guitar duo and guitar orchestra 'Tricastin', with selected students from conservatories throughout Catalonia (Reus, Tarragona, Vila-seca, Girona, Cervera, Barcelona), and in coordination for the preparation of this concert by the Head of the Guitar Department of the Conservatory of Vila-seca, Professor Enrique Malo, and its director, Professor José Francisco Solórzano.

The concert has had five preparatory sessions that have taken place between the months of February and June 2019 in Vila-seca, and a final stay of three days of work with the teacher Leo Brouwer to the Infants since today Monday, July 22 , which will allow the participating students to know and work with one of the great myths of the classical guitar of the last 50 years.

This concert joins the international acts of homage to the figure of Leo Brouwer that will take place this year, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the famous composer, orchestral director, guitarist, researcher, pedagogue and cultural promoter. Honorary member of the International Music Council of UNESCO. Brouwer is among the most recognized musicians of the moment, has more than 300 artistic and academic distinctions and several groups and festivals are named after him.

As complementary activities to the Festival, master classes will be offered by renowned guitarists such as Marco Smaili, Hopkinson Smith and Marco Tamayo; and at the Infant Pere Cultural Center, the luthiers Santiago Canales, Antonio Manjón, Joan Pellissa, Ángel Gómez de Guillén and Elías Bonet will exhibit their instruments.

The Hospitalet de l'Infant International Guitar Festival, under the coordination and artistic direction of María Patricia Mercado and Anders Clemens, is organized by the City Council of Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant and has the support of the Diputación de Tarragona.
