El Pessebre dels Estels 2017 Masia Castelló Vandellòs
Monday, December 18, 2017
Beatriz Higueras, Ayuntamiento de Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant

On December 23, 26 and 30, 2017 and January 6, 2018

The Pessebre dels Estrels of the La Masia de Castelló will celebrate two decades this year. So that no one is left with the desire to enjoy this event organized by the Associació Masia Castelló, with the sponsorship of the Town Hill of Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant, in this 20th edition, the Pessebre will be open four days, one more than the previous years. Specifically, on 23, 26 and 30 December 2017 and 6 January 2018.

This will not be, however, the only novelty, as new scenes and shows will be released. And it is that the Association has recovered an old corral, to put the stable of the birth in a nicer and centric place of Castelló and has made a ferris wheel that makes it run an animal (the water extracted from the well s' will take advantage to irrigate the manger garden). In addition, the cellar of "Cal Santo", one of the important houses of Castelló of the XVII century, which still stands, will be opened. Visitors can see the kitchen, the bread oven, the dining room, the fire on the floor, the barn ...

A total of thirty-eight scenes will be performed, thanks to the 220 actors and more than 100 collaborators who will make it possible for this medieval town of the municipality of Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant to recover, as every Christmas, its life. All this will only happen, as we said, on December 23, 26 and 30, 2017 and January 6, 2018. The visiting hours will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at www.masiacastello.cat or in Castelló itself, upon arrival in the town, and will be priced at 4 euros, for children between 4 and 9 years old; and 7 euros, for the rest of the public; for children under 4 years, access will be free. The price of the ticket will include a small snack, which will be offered in a large tent.

People interested in visiting the Nativity Scene will need to go to Vandellòs, where they will be told how to get their own vehicle, by paved road, to the parking lot, a large area equipped to park the vehicles easily.

Precisely, what truly makes this manger unique is the place where it is celebrated. Castelló is a medieval town in the municipality of Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant, nestled between mountains, which was uninhabited in the middle of the 20th century. Its physical decline stopped when the Associació Masia de Castelló was established in 1997 and organized its first living manger.

Little by little Castelló, thanks to the Manger, has recovered streets, walls, eras, houses and some roof, then half in ruins and hidden under the vegetation. But not only has he recovered his physical appearance, but also, every Christmas, his life, the one he had had at the beginning of the last century, when about 120 people lived. So, in Castelló, at Christmas, there is again a blacksmith, saddler, llatadores, reed, carpenter ... In the era there are sheaves again, the oven feels again the aroma of fresh bread, in the tavern is sung again and the smoke up in the forest of Tossalet betrays the coal mine.

This project, after twenty years, still stands. This year, Castelló, thanks to the effort of the Association and the inestimable collaboration of the neighbors, faces the future with optimism. At the moment, the works of desescombro center in the reconstruction of "Cal Santo" (ancestral house of century XVII). They are spaces rebuilt by the Association, always for public purposes.
