"Camí de Mestral" is the new tourist product of the municipalities that from 2016 are promoted under the tourist brand of "Terres de Mestral", that is, Vandellòs and l'Hospitalet de l'Infant, Tivissa and Pratdip. It is a 4-stage hiking route, which offers "a spectacular combination of sea and mountain with infinite panoramic views of the territory, an area of ​​small inland and coastal villages that retain the essence of a very good rurality ", as explained Tuesday, April 30, the coordinator of the federation that brings together the three municipalities (MIDIT), Izaskun Cendegui, during the presentation ceremony, which took place at the Casal Municipal de Pratdip.
It is a 67.5 km mountain route, without great technical difficulties, but it is not suitable for the beginner since, along the length of some excursions (complexity or duration), there is an accumulated positive difference and a terrain with a slope in some section of the route, as the director of the company that will market hereafter (Brogit Guiatges), Meritxell Omella.
The idea is that «lovers of walking, nature and the mountains next to the sea» can choose between several options: the complete route, of 4 days, to enjoy the whole route, walking from town to village and accommodation in accommodation; It is aimed at those who do not have four days in a row available and can do the trip on two weekends (they do not have to be consecutive); the "Premium" option, for those who just want a base to stay and be a charming hotel; and the option "Free + welcome pack", for those who want to acquire the welcome package, with the tracks, the informative material and a gift included, to discover the route for free. The price varies depending on the option chosen and the different types of accommodation and whether to choose the route with or without guidance, as reported on the web page www.terresdemestral.cat. As a general summary, a divulging material has been published in the format of the map (in Catalan, Spanish, English and French), which will be available at the tourist offices of the three municipalities.
With this new tourist proposal, ideal for contemplative walkers who want to hurry, in a relaxed way, they want to "publicize the territory of the Terres de Mestral, favor economic activity, attract new audiences and segments of the market, improve the competitiveness of the destination and contribute to seasonal seasonal tourism, "explained the director of the company Tourislab, David Esteller. With this last objective, precisely, the "Camí de Mestral" will be marketed during these two periods: from March to June; and from September to December.
"This is not a closed tourist product, but other versions can be made," said the coordinator of MIDIT, Izaskun Cendegui, who highlighted the strengths of the route: "local cuisine, picturesque villages, roads old, beach, virgin landscapes, cultural offer and protected natural area ». Cendegui also stressed that the "Camí de Mestral" is the result of a coordinated work process between the public and private sector of the territory that began in 2016 and is framed in the Strategic Plan for the Local Economic Development of the MIDIT. Within its strategy of promoting the Route, the Mancomunitat has already contacted several tour operators who have been interested in the product and has already promoted it at various European tourist fairs.
This initiative is promoted by MIDIT with the support of the Public Employment Service of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Social Security, within the framework of the subsidy of innovative and experimental projects.
