Vandellòs and Hospitalet de l’Infant City Council launches beach informants service

These people will ensure that safety measures for the Covid-19 are complied with on the beaches of the municipality and will control their capacity.

From today, Friday 19 June, and until 31 August, there will be beach informants in Vandellòs and L’Hospitalet de l’Infant. The City Council has launched this service to try to ensure maximum health safety on the four beaches of the municipality (Platja de l'Arenal, Platja del Riu, Platja del Torn and Platja de l'Almadrava) and increase the trust of users.

These people will be responsible for informing people of the health protection rules and recommendations that must be followed to avoid risks of infection and spread of Covid-19; and to ensure compliance. They will also check the capacity, check the condition of the services provided on the beaches (walkways, green points, toilets…) and give notice of any incidents that may occur. To communicate these events, they will have stations to contact the lifeguard service, in case the incidents are of a health nature (jellyfish bites, drownings); with the Local Police, if they are related to assaults, confrontations, fights…); or with the service coordinator, if they have any questions or encounter a minor issue.

The eight beach informants hired by the City Council were given a training session on Thursday, June 18 and were provided with personal protective equipment and gear. People will be able to recognize them easily because they will wear a vest with the logo of the City Council of Vandellòs and Hospitalet de l’Infant and an identification card.

The service will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Each day, before the end of these shifts, the beach officers will fill in a form stating the capacity by time slots, if there have been incidents and the state in which the services have been found, once the checking.

The City Council reminds citizens that "it is very important to use and occupy the beaches responsibly from both an environmental and health point of view", as it insists on the posters it has placed on the beaches, in which the safety, protection and hygiene measures established by the health authorities are detailed: the safety distance of 2 m must always be maintained, use a mask if it is not possible to maintain the distance of 2 m, it is not possible to go in groups of more of 15 people; a distance of 6 meters from the water must be left free; and sports activities can only be carried out without physical contact, individually and at a minimum distance of 2 meters.

No showers, footbaths or children's and sports games have been installed on the beaches for safety, to avoid all those elements that could be transmitters of the coronavirus. There will be chemical toilets, but less than usual.

Beach conditioning works

With regard to the repair of the beaches, Costas de l'Estat has begun this week to carry out the work of replacing the sand that it does every year and also other actions to repair the damage caused by the storm. Gloria. Specifically, the planned actions are: in Almadrava Beach, contribution of sand from the area of ​​the port of Hospitalet de l'Infant and execution of a breakwater to protect the path south of the beach ; at Platja del Torn, breakwater protection of the northern access to the beach; in Arenal Beach, installation of protective fences on the road that runs between the EL Templo del Sol campsite and the beach; And on the stretch of beach adjacent to the port, removal of excess sand.

At the same time, the municipal brigade of the City Council of Vandellòs and Hospitalet de l’Infant has proceeded to install the walkways.

Although some bars are already open, most of the winners of the bars and other services have expressed their willingness to start the services there for Sant Joan or in early July.
