Jonquet's Coastline Path has obtained this quality mark a year longer

Vandellos and l'Hospitalet de l'Infant have won the Blue Path 2022 award for the Jonquet's Coastline Path. It is a quality mark awarded by the ADEAC, with the support of the Biodiversidad Foundation, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, with the aim of promoting the sustainable development of coastal areas by fulfilling quality criteria that ensure the preservation and improvement of existing environmental conditions; the safety and ease of use for visitors; and integrated and coherent management of natural, historical, cultural and ethnographic values that make up the coastal heritage.

In the letter of congratulation received by the Regidoria de Tourism, the ADEAC, which is the same association that evaluates the quality of the beaches (Flag Blue), it has thanked the City Council "the effort and commitment of the municipality to maintain the quality and care of the environment, carrying out tasks and activities suitable for its conservation and value".

In 2022, a total of 86 trails have been awarded throughout Spain. The award ceremony will take place on 26 May in Madrid.

Jonquet's Coastline Path

Jonquet's Coastline Trail is a low-problem trail that links two blue Flag beaches: the Arenal beach and the Torn beach, to the Hospitalet de l'Infant. It runs parallel to the coast and more than half of the route runs through the Natural Interest Space (PEIN) of the Rojala-Platja del Torn, where the islet of the Torn islet is located, a small rock promontory attached to the beach that still retains vestiges of an ancient 16th-century watchtower.

In the embryonic dunes south of the Arenal Beach, there are plants such as the Dwarf Maresia, a small protected herbaceous, and a good representation of the sea scarf (Thymelaea hirsuta). In Cala Bea there is a machine gun nest built during the Civil War to protect the coast from an attack that never occurred. On the beach at the turn there is a fairly high and well-formed dune cord, with dune-fixing plants such as the drone or the sea lily.

The Rojala-Platja del Torn  is a natural interest space from 1996, to protect a terrestrial portion of coastal Mediterranean forest, and a marine part up to 30m deep with the presence of Prats de Posidonia oceanica. The remains of leaves of this plant are often found on the sand.

In 2017, different performances were made at the Jonquet's Coastline Path to prepare the candidacy for the Blue Path award. Since then, improvements have been made to firmness and signalling, stretches of stairs and railings have been arranged and other conditioning work carried out; and the award has been renewed year after year.
